Lunch Buffet at SuTao Cafe

No new recipe this week, but my sister Alena and I went to SuTao Cafe's lunch buffet, so that was awesome! We each got two plates, as well as grapes and pineapple for our dessert, and we were stuffed. It's so nice going to a completely vegan restaurant, and one with a buffet is even better!

My first plate (yams, vegetables, lo mein, vegetable fried rice, fried broccoli, fried banana, spring roll, vegetable dumpling)

Alena's first plate (lo mein, “steak,” vegetable dumpling, spring roll, spicy vegetables)

My second plate (vegetable fried rice, fried broccoli, broccoli, spring roll, “steak,” “Treasure Island,” tofu, chickpeas)

Alena's second plate (vegetables, chickpeas, General Tso's “chicken,” spring roll, vegetable fried rice)

As usual, everything was great; every time I go to SuTao Cafe, I can't wait to go right back!

Random Food Post (June)

Here's some of the new foods I've tried since the last random food post.

I finally got around to trying the Gardein meatless meatballs; they were pretty good. I first had them with spaghetti sauce, but found out that I actually preferred them plain. 





I also tried Daiya's fire-roasted vegetable pizza, which is now my favorite of their frozen pizzas. Yum! 






And I tried a few of the Simply Asia noodle bowls. First up was the soy ginger, which was pretty good. 




Next was the sesame teriyaki, with some Health is Wealth vegetable spring rolls on the side (the spring rolls were alright, considering that they had major freezer burn, whoops...).







And finally, the roasted peanut, with carrots added in and cucumber on the side. Delicious!

Salt and Vinegar Fries

For my new recipe this week, I decided to try making salt and vinegar fries (I've never really liked them much). I glanced at this recipe posted here from Chloe's Kitchen and got cooking... 


I washed and sliced two medium red potatoes (didn't bother with soaking them) and baked them with about a tablespoon of olive oil and some salt at 400°F, flipping them every 10 minutes or so. 



For the last 10 minutes, I lowered the heat to 350°F and added the broccoli and carrots. After moving the broccoli and carrots to the plate, I added ½ tablespoon of vinegar to the fries, stirring and flipping them, and adding a bit more salt. 


Served with a Boca chik'n patty.

The verdict: Delicious! This is definitely something I will make again, and I might even add a bit more vinegar next time! 



I had the leftover salt and vinegar fries with carrots and collard greens (including kale this time, like the recipe from Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food suggests).

Baked Beans and Banana Bread

My new recipes this week aren't quite “new” – they're variations on old recipes. So, kinda new. New enough.

Baked Beans: For my new twist on baked beans, I incorporated ingredients from the maple-smoked baked beans recipe in Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food into the recipe I usually use. I added some hickory liquid smoke, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder, which turned out to be nice additions that I'll likely do again. 





Banana Bread: I used my favorite banana bread recipe, adding cinnamon and raisins. I had a piece last night with some vegan vanilla ice cream; delicious!
