*Bonus Post* (3rd) Liebster Award!

I feel so honored; I was nominated for another Liebster Award, this time by Laura of Banana Curl, Vegan Girl! Thanks so much, Laura!

Here's what you do when you're nominated:
1. Answer the questions given and then come up with 10 new ones to ask your nominees.
2. Nominate 8 other blogs, let them know you have nominated them and put a link to their blog in your post.
3. No tag backs.
4. Nominees must have under 200 followers on any platform.
5. You must tell all the blogs that you nominate that you have nominated them.

Here are Laura's questions and my answers:

1. What is your all time favorite vegetable?

Broccoli. :)

2. Pick a holiday you celebrate. What would you like to make for the meals you eat for it this year?

Thanksgiving is at my aunt's house, so she does most of the cooking, though I usually bring along a potato dish. If I were hosting Thanksgiving, here's what I'd make: A Tofurky roast (still have yet to try one!), stuffing, mashed potatoes (in addition to my other potato dish), lots of veggies (corn, peas, maybe roasted vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), nice rolls, oh and gravy, and a soup (maybe my dad's French onion soup, veganized).

3. Do you care about giving veganism a positive example through your life and what you put out into the communities you interact with? If so, how do you strive to maintain that positivity?

Yes, I always try to be positive and have a sense of humor about it. I can be serious when needed and silly when needed. I also have several vegan buttons on my bag, and a couple vegan message shirts.

4. Do you have a favorite vegan type of saying? For instance, I really like what my Compassion Company shirt says “Anything you can eat I can eat vegan?”

I have several, but one of my favorites, which I have on a shirt from Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, is a quote from Jenny Brown: “Animals are here with us, not for us.”

5. Are you interested in other types of ethical/philosophical justice issues? What are they and how do you involve yourselves in them?

Yes, I'm very interested in LGBT+ issues, economic justice, and prevention of DV/IPV (domestic violence/intimate partner violence). I'm a shy person, so I try to be confident in conversations with family and friends, to bring awareness of these issues.

6. What would you tell someone who confided in you they were thinking of going vegan but felt overwhelmed about it?

I would first say, “YAY! That's awesome!” Then I'd say, “Let's try to figure out a plan...” I'd ask what specifically they felt overwhelmed by, and go from there... For example, cooking for themselves: I could help them identify some kitchen essentials and simple recipes with ingredients that are already familiar to them. Eating out at restaurants: Encourage them check online or call ahead for what vegan options they can get so they won't feel overwhelmed when ordering. Being with non-vegan friends and family: Explain that it can be tough, but discuss some ideas to make it easier. Getting enough variety: Help them plan out a month's worth of meals, picking a new dish for each meal. (Sorry if I went overboard with this answer, I volunteer as a vegan pledge mentor, so I'm used to thinking about this situation, haha.)

7. What was the first thing you cooked for yourself when you went vegan?

Probably something simple like pasta or rice with vegetables and soy sauce.

8. How long have you been a vegan for?

I've been vegan for over four years.

9. Do you celebrate your veganniversary?

I don't remember the exact date I went vegan, so no. I should just pick a day and go with it.

10. If you could travel to any vegan friendly city in the world, where would you choose to go?

Warsaw, Poland (see Vegan Sweet and Simple's Poland post).

The 8 bloggers I nominate are:
Ana of Ana's Rocket Ship
Danielle of Baking Backwards
Emily of Czech Chica's Noshery
Kim of Daisychains and Dandelions
Katie of katieeatsvegan
Stacey of Plants vs Plump
Sarah of Tofu Sarah
Cate of A Travelling Cook

And here are the 10 new questions for the people I've nominated:
1. What is your favorite recipe?
2. What was the most recent dessert you made?
3. What is your favorite vegan cookbook?
4. What is your favorite place to get vegetables (grocery store, farmer's market, CSA, growing your own, etc.)?
5. If you could pick any animal to be for a day, which animal would you choose & why?
6. Do you prefer sweet or savory dishes?
7. What do you like to use as a vegan egg substitute?
8. What was your favorite book as a kid?
9. If you could be a guest star in any TV show currently on the air, which show would you choose & why?

*Bonus Post* (2nd) Liebster Award!

Wow; can you believe it?! I was nominated for another Liebster Award, this time by Hannah of House Vegan! Thanks so much, Hannah!

Once again, here's how it works when you're nominated:

Here are Hannah's questions and my answers:

1. What is your favorite application for chocolate? (Baked goods, hot chocolate, etc.)

Right now, hot chocolate. Other times, brownies. Most often, though, I'll just eat it plain. :)

2. Tea or coffee? Why?

Tea; there's so many fun varieties & I can have it without needing to add anything. (I'm stubborn in this regard; I don't like the smell/taste of coffee, so I feel that if I have to add tons of sugar/milk/flavoring to it just to make it drinkable, what's the point?)

3. What was one food you detested as a kid, but grew to love as an adult?

Broccoli, definitely. I remember one time my dad tried to get me to eat broccoli by preparing a really cheesy sauce for it. I loved the sauce, but still didn't care for the broccoli. Now, however, a day doesn't feel complete without broccoli, haha! (Plus, I can even eat it plain, as long as it's at least been steamed.)

4. Do you remember your first celebrity crush? Who was it?

Not sure, maybe Billy Gilman? He was a young country singer when I was in grade school. (I don't know if he still sings; I don't listen to country music anymore.)

5. How old were you when you stopped believing in magic? Did you ever stop?

When I was younger, I believed in nature magic & I also hoped that the magic in Harry Potter was real, writing down spells as I read along and practicing them just in case. I guess I still believe in magic, in a general sense, though I don't think about it much.

6. What is the messiest room in your home?

Right now, it's the library room because that's where we've been tossing stuff we haven't found a place for yet. Everywhere else I keep pretty clean & organized.

7. If you could open up your home to any farm animal what would it be? Assume you were given all the resources needed to make this a reasonable scenario.

Probably a pig because I'd read that they get along well with cats. Can you imagine Buttons and Leela living with a pig? :)

8. Where was the farthest away from home that you've ever traveled?

New Orleans, Louisiana. That was one long car ride, haha!

9. What one kitchen tool do you use the most (utensils and plates excluded)?

Probably my saucepan (one-pot meals for the win!).

10. Do you have any Fall traditions? What are they?

Apple cider! During fall, we buy a gallon of local apple cider every week. I also put up fall/harvest decorations & then wait until October 1 to start with the Halloween decorations.

The 8 bloggers I nominate are:

Colleen of Adventures in Vegan Bento
Lily of HERRRBIVORE
Stephanie of Reading, Eating, Running
Taylor of REAL FOOD + TRAVEL
Rosalie of quinces and kale
Maggie of Veg Fiend
Tamara of Vegan Life in Paradise
Lysette of Vegan Varg

And here are the 10 new questions for the people I've nominated:
1. What is your favorite vegan documentary?
2. Have you ever visited a sanctuary? (If so, which one? If not, which sanctuary would you like to visit in the future?)
3. What is your favorite aspect of fall/autumn?
4. What's your favorite way to decorate a pumpkin (carving, painting, etc.)?
5. What was your favorite Halloween candy as a kid?
6. Have you found/made a vegan version of it?
7. What book would you recommend someone to read if they were thinking about going vegan?
8. Do you prefer cooking or baking?
9. What do you like to do on cold, rainy days?
10. What is your favorite fruit?

And, like I said to the first round of people I nominated, please don't feel any pressure to answer the questions, especially if another blog nominated you before I did. Finally, thanks again to Hannah! (Everyone else, go check out her blog if you haven't already! She's had so many awesome recipes this MoFo; I've bookmarked a ton to try!)

Much love to all my fellow Vegan MoFo bloggers!

Peace. :)

*Bonus Post* Liebster Award!

I was so excited to find out that Kate of Odd Little Vegan had nominated me for a Liebster Award! Thanks so much, Kate!

Here's what you do when you get nominated for the Liebster Award:

So, let's get started!

Here are Kate’s questions & my answers:

1. Are you a morning person?

Yes, and even if I weren't, Buttons makes sure I get up. When she hears my alarm go off, she takes that as her cue to start crying for breakfast, so there's no hope of getting back to sleep. Sometimes Leela even joins in.

2. What’s your favourite way to relax?

Reading, taking a walk, cuddling with kitties.

3. Are you a tea drinker, or a coffee drinker?

Tea, definitely!

4. Who is your all-time favourite fictional character (book, TV, or movie)?

Favorite book character is Nanny Ogg (of Terry Pratchett's Discworld), favorite TV character is Joan Watson (played by Lucy Lui), and favorite movie character is Ana Pascal (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal).

5. What’s the last thing you do before you go to sleep at night?

Double-check that my alarm is set, turn off the light, and cuddle with Leela.

6. What was the first concert you ever went to?

Actually never been to a concert. Went to my high school's Battle of the Bands back in the day. Does that count? Haha.

7. What’s your least favourite word in the English language?

Processes (especially when it's pronounced with a long “e”).

8. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

In a vegan community/sanctuary that would grow its own food and care for rescued animals.

9. Hypothetical: you’re stuck on a deserted island – which 5 movies and/or TV box-sets do you bring?

Stranger than Fiction, The Office, Away We Go, Parks and Recreation, and Across the Universe.

10. What’s something that you’re excited about or looking forward to right now?

Self-publishing my story about Mystery!

The 8 bloggers I nominate are:

Cat of Cat and Ju Vegan Cooking
Laura of Detroit Made
Heather of East Meets West Veg
Bonnie of Eating with the Rabbits
Kimmy of Rock My Vegan Socks
Rosie of Rosie's Vegan Kitchen
Jasmine of Self Sufficient Cafe
Zsu of Zsu's Vegan Pantry

And here are the 10 new questions for the people I've nominated:

1. When is your “veganniversary”/the date you went vegan? (Or if, like me, you don't remember the exact date, have you chosen a day on which to celebrate your veganniversary?)
2. What's one of your best qualities?

3. What is your most-used kitchen tool/utensil?
4. Do you share your life with any animals? (If so, tell us a bit about them.)
5. If you could open a sanctuary, what would be the first type of animal you would rescue?
6. Do you prefer your pizza hot and fresh, or cold as leftovers the next day?
7. What is your favorite type of tea?
8. What's one food/meal that you thought you'd never have again once you went vegan, only to find out later that there is a vegan version of it?
9. What would be your “catch phrase?” (What is your favorite phrase and/or what is the phrase you say most often?)
10. What's your go-to dish to bring to a vegan potluck?

No pressure to answer the questions; if I nominated you, I already think you are awesome! (Also, if another blog nominated you before I did, don't worry about answering my questions in addition to theirs.)
Finally, thanks again to Kate! (Everyone else, go check out her blog if you haven't already! P.S. There are many cute pictures of kittens and a dog throughout her posts!)

Much love to all my fellow Vegan MoFo bloggers!

Peace. :)
