Hi everyone! I made a simple gravy as part of a mashed potato bowl. I used 1 cup water, ¼ cup flour, 1 ½ tablespoons nutritional yeast, and 1/8 teaspoon each of salt and pepper, whisking the ingredients together over medium heat. It worked out nicely.
Here’s Rogue, lounging in the kitchen…
Peace. :)

Bookmarked Recipe: Golden Gravy (VeggieSue’s Veggie Adventures)
Hi everyone! Today I made the golden gravy from VeggieSue’s Veggie Adventures (Vegan MoFo 2014); it was super simple to prepare, and tasty, too! I had it over mashed potatoes with a bit of broccoli and another toasted Ruben.
Cringer gave my plate an inquisitive sniff before I sat down to eat.
Peace. :)

Mushroom Gravy
Hi everyone! This week I made mushroom gravy; here’s my recipe...
Ingredients:
2 cups sliced mushrooms (I used baby bella)
1 ½ tablespoons canola oil
2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
½ cup water
½ teaspoon liquid smoke
Directions:
Saute the mushrooms with the canola oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the mushrooms have softened, add the flour, nutritional yeast, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine, then add ¼ cup water, stir, then add the final ¼ cup water. Continue stirring, add the liquid smoke, and then blend the gravy. Makes 1 cup gravy.
Here are Cringer and Daisy enjoying a restful moment on the packing paper they’ve been playing with recently...
And Leela, who posed for her picture this morning...
Peace. :)

Simple Smoky Gravy (VegNews)
Hi everyone! This week I tried the simple smoky gravy from “The Thanksgiving Cookbook,” which was a bonus pullout in the most recent VegNews. My only change was to use all-purpose flour instead of oat flour. It turned out really well; I had a big ladle of it with some mashed potatoes.
Here are the kitties...
Today marks one month without Buttons. Everything I’ve tried to type here turns rambly and sad, so instead, I’ll share an old sketch. Buttons didn’t get the memo about holding still as a model; she kept rolling around dramatically and then got up before I could finish it, but I still like how it turned out, and I like remembering her so happy & carefree...
Peace. :)

Pumpkin Mashed Potatoes (Steamy Kitchen)
Hi everyone, and Happy Halloween! "Halloween" is of course the prompt for today, the last day of Vegan MoFo, so I made pumpkin mashed potatoes, veganizing this recipe (use vegan butter; canola oil & soymilk in place of the heavy cream; and vegan Worcestershire sauce).
I had been a bit skeptical about this dish at first, but it was actually pretty good!
Here's my Inktober sketch; it looks super scary lol…
And here's the kitty crew saying they hope you don't get too frightened on this spooky night…
And a throwback photo of Buttons from around Halloween 2014…
Peace. :)

Mushroom Gravy
This week I tried out yet another recipe from Quick and Easy Vegan Comfort Food. The mushroom gravy recipe made enough for four servings, so I tested it out in four different dishes. It was simple to prepare, and I minced the mushrooms small enough that I didn't feel the need to do the optional blending at the end, though I may try that next time, just to see what it is like as a smoother gravy. (The changes I made from the original recipe were that I only used 1/4 teaspoon pepper and and 3/4 cup vegetable stock.)
The first way I tried the gravy was with mashed potatoes (this was probably my favorite).
I also tried it mixed in with brown rice because the author mentioned that combination in the recipe introduction. It was pretty good, but I think I prefer gravy with potatoes.
The third way I tried the mushroom gravy was with some Old Bay spice mix fries; yum!
And finally, today, I had the last of the gravy in a Boca chik'n sandwich, with fries on the side, another delicious meal!
So, bottom line, the mushroom gravy is definitely one that I will make again, as it is very delicious and versatile.
Buttons and Leela, while soaking up the sunshine yesterday, kept getting closer and closer, until Buttons finally stretched and bumped her head against Leela's tail. It was quite cute!
Peace. :)
