Elementary, My Dear Vegan: Sushi

Hi everyone! Today’s “Elementary, My Dear Vegan” is another food reference from S1E5 (“Lesser Evils”)…

Watson: I was thinking sushi tonight.
Holmes: Salmonella, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, mercury poisoning, Anisakis simplex…. But yeah, sushi’s good.

I made the vegan sushi from this post on My cat loves Daiya! Never having rolled and cut sushi before, I was actually rather impressed with the end results. I mean, they were kinda squished and quite messy, but they didn’t completely fall apart, and the spicy mayo was such a fun addition!

(I made a sushi bowl with some of the leftovers; Daisy had to give it a sniff, of course!)

Here’s Cringer being a goof at the bottom of the stairs…

Peace. :)

  1. That's pretty great for your first attempt! When I was first trying to make sushi I had a tendency to put way too much filling in and then end up with giant sushi rolls. I've gotten better with practice and I'm sure if you try making it again you'll get better at it. But I can't do it well without a proper sushi rolling mat--I swear by that.

    1. Thank you! This was without a sushi rolling mat, so I'm sure they would have turned out neater if I'd used one, haha! :)

  2. Making sushi is a lot of fun! There is something soothing about rolling up with the mat. That said, I hardly ever make it. But when the weather warms up again, I need to get onto that.

  4. The mayo does make the rolls a little squishier than normal. I just made a little wrap version of this the other night!!
Ha, Daisy looks like a great snoopervisor too!
Cringer does look a little crazy!!

  7. Those are pretty good sushi rolls! It isn't hard once you get the hang of the rolling part.

  8. Haha, your first attempt at sushi is a lot neater than mine! I also tried inside out sushi rolls on either my first or second go, that was so stressful!
